CYBORGANIC CORPORATION COMPLETES FIRST-ROUND FINANCING AND PLANS MOVE TO NEW LOCATION -- Expansion marks shift in focus toward building online community for cutting-edge ISP and Web Design firm-- SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. September 10, 1996 -- The Cyborganic Corporation today announced the closing of its first round of seed capital as well as its plans to expand into a new location. The first round of investment capital was provided by private investors and a small investment group; out of respect for the investors' privacy, the total amount is not announced. Investors came from San Francisco, New York, Chicago and Tokyo. Plans for expansion include additional key hires and relocating to a larger location in downtown San Francisco. Parties interested in employment should check the Cyborganic Gardens Web site for current openings (http://www.cyborganic.com/shed/notices/jobs.html). "All of our investors share our vision of the Net as something more than a giant strip mall and believe in the bottom-up model of content and community development that makes the Cyborganic vision unique," explained Jonathan Steuer, President and CEO of The Cyborganic Corporation. "A common trajectory for startups like ours is to start small, and to use the first round as a way to build up some of the key elements of a project to make it a stronger, more stable organization (and a better financial bet for investors) before trying to raise large amounts of capital." Steuer confirmed that a second round of financing will begin as soon as the move to the new location is complete. Cyborganic is scheduled to move on September 16, 1996 to its new premises at 654 Mission Street in San Francisco. This prime location is just around the corner from Moscone Center, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the Center for the Arts at Yerba Buena Gardens. The 10,600-square-foot space, with three floors plus a mezzanine, provides plenty of room to accommodate Cyborganic's anticipated growth. Cyborganic will eventually include a public cafe space in the ground-floor storefront area. Additional space will be available for short-term rental to Cyborganic members until it is needed by Cyborganic itself. The Cyborganic Corporation Overview The Cyborganic Corporation was incorporated in October, 1995 by Jonathan Steuer, who founded HotWired and consulted on the online architecture for c|net: the computer network. The company was founded by Steuer in early 1992 as a consulting and online events production organization. It has served as a local source of neighborhood Internet connectivity and community development since October, 1993. Caleb Donaldson, Cyborganic Gardener-in-Chief, joined Cyborganic in October, 1995, after serving as a member of the startup staff of HotWired and as Production Manager for the launch of c|net: the computer network. When he is not working on Cyborganic consulting projects, Caleb spends his time recruiting new community members and collecting cool content for the Cyborganic Gardens (http://www.cyborganic.com/). Cyborganic offers a full range of Web consulting, development, online community, and Internet-based publishing and collaboration services. A list of Cyborganic bios, projects, and clients can be found in the Cyborganic Online Brochure (http://www.cyborganic.com/brochure/). The Online Community Business Cyborganic has established a thriving community, both online and offline. Tools such as electronic mailing lists, Cyborganic chat server (http://www.spacebar.com/) and a weekly potluck dinner at the Cyborganic offices cement the bonds that make Cyborganic strong. Cyborganic also built and maintains the Cyborganic Gardens, a place to host members' home pages and a vehicle for hosting content sites like Justin's Links from the Underground (http://www.links.net/) and The Safer Sex Page (http://www.safersex.org/). Continued expansion of the Cyborganic Gardens will be the primary focus of the Cyborganic Corporation once the move into the Mission Street location is complete. "We're creating a community-based web publishing environment where creativity flourishes because it's allowed to flourish," continued Steuer. "Cyborganic will be launching two exciting new content areas in the coming months. These new sites will establish our people-oriented view of the Net as a viable means of content production, and should also allow the Net to get to know the Cyborganics in some new and interesting ways." "Part of the mission of Cyborganic is to provide people a place to publish their own digital work, to provide a context and a structure for peoples' personal publishing efforts on the Web," said Caleb Donaldson. "Cyborganic's support for my own work has been incredible", commented Stephen Rice, author of an online graphic novel called The Gifted (http://www.cyborganic.com/people/infidel/). "Rather than just maintaining my site with another service provider, I feel that here I'm contributing to a growing body of creativity and community. Something different is going on with this.... It has a life of its own." Becoming a Cyborganic Gardens Member is Easy Membership in the Cyborganic Gardens is competitively priced and comprehensive.
